Shift Manager – Warehouse
ROLE PURPOSE
The Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective working of their team over
the course of a shift ensuring KPI’s are achieved. Ensuring all Health & Safety and
compliance measures are met, and the warehouse is operating at maximum
efficiency.
The Shift Manager will continuously review ways of working, identifying improvements
and implementing these within the team. Responsible for delegating tasks to their
colleagues and setting targets and goals to keep their team on track and review
performance to ensure growth.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise all operational aspects of a specific area/shift of the warehouse operation so
that they are carried out safely, cost-effectively, efficiently and with high emphasis upon
customer service.
• To supervise a specific area/shift of the warehouse operation on a day-to-day basis,
ensuring all work and administration is completed to agreed deadlines.
• To ensure all processes are followed to achieve stock accuracy and operational efficiency.
• To respond promptly to all queries/requests for the warehouse operation and ensure that
actions are followed through.
• Complete daily administration tasks to the required standard and timelines.
• Promote a safety-first culture within the area of responsibility and undertake regular
checks and audits. Complete any remedial actions as required.
• Follow all health and safety processes.
• Ensure standards of cleanliness are meeting the necessary requirements and in line with
health and safety.
• To guide and train the operational team through the company operational SOPs.
• Frequently carry out spot checks on operational activities and targets.
• Monitor and record checks of mechanical handling equipment, in line with the
organisation's procedures.
• Carry out regular briefings with your team and ensure any feedback they give is shared
with the Shift Operations Manager on the relevant shift or the relevant departmental
contact.
• Organise for all members of the day shift warehouse team to receive appropriate
training and development to ensure they can deliver in their role.
• In conjunction with the Shift Operations Manager ensure there is sufficient, skilled
resource and equipment in place to always meet the needs of the business.

• Pro-actively identify any areas of non-conformance or opportunities for improvement
within your area of responsibility and plan and complete actions to achieve these
improvements.
• Support any tasks and projects as required to ensure the good running of the
warehouse.
• Ensure that all returns are processed in a timely manner.
• To assist and support the supervision of the recycling department.
• To support when required in the absence of the Shift Operations Manager
• Support fellow Shift Manager’s with all day-to-day tasks as necessary and assist other
team members as required.
• To action any other elements to fulfil the operational needs of the business.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Experience of managing or working in a warehouse or distribution environment
essential.
• Good people management skills with the ability to manage and motivate others.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• IT literate with knowledge of WMS systems.
• Ability to report on operational performance information.
• Focussed on always delivering excellent service to all customers.
• Able to cope with change and manage own workload and priorities.
• Able to deliver results and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of relevant H&S, HR legislation and good practice.
